Women in Science
Role models, mentors and sponsors
Video clip: Leanne feels that she can have frank and honest conversations with her ex-boss (now retired) who became her mentor and scientific adviser.
You had somebody who inspired you in New Zealand. Did you see him as a sort of mentor as we would now talk about?
Yes. I do see him as a mentor very much and I still actually do see him as a mentor.
And the person I came over to work with primarily, the head of the group I came to I then saw as my new mentor. And he, he is, he was fantastic he really was. And he retired three years ago now and I actually still call him my scientific advisor on my career, so I go and have very frank and honest conversations with him about where I'm going and what I should be doing and, and it’s quite nice because he’s no longer with the group, he’s a bit more objective which I completely understand.
