Getting funding for a PhD and being a graduate student
Interview excerpt: Being a graduate student taught Samira how to interact with fellow scientists, how to find collaborators, and how to manage her time and resources.
Being a graduate student; I was learning not just how to be a scientist but also how to interact with fellow scientists, how to spot academic opportunities, how to maximise the scientific output from, for my research, how to find collaborations. So it was a very useful three years for me in the sense that I had a blueprint of, not just how to do experiments and how to address scientific questions but also how to manage interactions, sometimes with difficult people, and really how to be strategic in the way that I manage my time and my resources. So it, it was a really useful time for me.
