Video clip: Alison had her first baby when she was employed on a five year programme grant. She thinks it was less damaging to her lab than losing a third of a three year grant.

That was when I had my children. .So I was 32 when I had my first child and 33 when I had my second. So they were, 22 months between the two. And again this is often quite difficult. When do you pick the time to have your children? I was lucky that I was employed on a five year programme grant. So although it was six months out with each child, within the sort of rolling five year programme of work it wasn’t as damaging to the lab as it can be if you lose a third of a three year project grant. And you know having had children it’s so easy to see, especially now, both sides…

Mm.

But you do, if you want to have a family you should go ahead and have one.
