Video clip: Tamsin thinks the flexible nature of academic work should be stressed as a positive to women considering a career in research.

So I think the real advantage actually is the flexibility of academia and I think this is something that we don't sell enough. And I think that is really useful. So if you do want to stay and see your child's nativity play, you just arrange your diary so that you can go and stay on late at the school to see the nativity play. And of course it doesn't, if you've got to do a work trip it can be difficult but if you're around you have quite a lot of control over your diary on the whole. And people don't, it's not so much a 9 to 5 job like some are. So I think that's an enormous advantage.
