Video clip: Christine, reflecting on her doctorate and other research projects, says that she has not experienced any discrimination due to gender.
My research is mainly to do with Diabetic Retinopathy and for my Doctorate I was focussing on genotype phenotype correlation of a specific type of Diabetic eye disease, Diabetic Macular Oedema which is a condition which is the main cause of reduced vision in type II diabetes in particular. So I was looking at the genetic aspects of it to try and find out if any aspects of it seemed to be inherited, because that had never been looked at in depth. But I was doing other diabetic eye disease related projects at the same time and some to do with age related macular degeneration as well, yeah.
During all this time did you ever perceive any discrimination in terms of gender?
No not at all actually. I think that different people’s experiences vary but in my experience not at all. I think I felt very, felt very lucky to have the opportunity to come and do the project.
