Video clip: Tamsin has found that attitudes to flexible and part-time working have changed for the better over the years.

When I came I was the first woman in my department to go on maternity leave. I found that quite difficult, kind of breaking that new ground was quite stressful and just things like getting the department seminar moved from 4.30 to 5.30, from 4 o'clock to 5 o'clock seemed to be unnecessarily stressful. And certainly, when I first came back from maternity leave I felt quite excluded from lots of the socialising I felt went on after hours and in the pub or whatever. And I didn't really feel I could engage with that. But that's changed a lot. So, the ten years I've been here both men and women who have significant family commitments are now more and more in the department, and more vocal in the department.

And so I think things have changed a lot. But I suppose those, sometimes the kind of, yes, I guess the framework that I arrived in and being the first woman to go on maternity leave and come back, and the sort of changes, and I work part-time as well, and that was stressful for a bit because people didn't really understand about working part-time, but I think a lot of those things have moved on quite a lot. But then some of the language that's used can sometimes make me feel less engaged.
