Disability Narratives

Back to the Topic

Video clip: Richard reflects that for an invisible condition like diabetes, some people can forget the effects it can have.

And because the condition is to all effects invisible, it is very easy for people just to forget it. And as well as the timing, infections mean the blood sugars fluctuate, with, in those conditions, my mood swings are quite extreme. So some days with high blood sugar, you know, I can be really quite suddenly quite intensely depressive. And again, sympathetic people realise this, are patient, it's fine, you don't have to apologise afterwards.

People certainly are not patient, and are not sympathetic with it, I think. And I'm sure would be, if one could bring oneself to ask for patience. But sometimes, it just gets a bit too tiresome.
