Video clip: Susannah sought to work as much as she could during a period of chronic migraines; although this affected her productivity, the advice from Disability Advisor helped her put strategies in place to manage her workload.
I mean, so I mean, my managers obviously were aware of it, because while I, I tried to work through - obviously you can't take - Most people with migraines, if they get a migraine they'll take a day off. When you're having migraines that often, you just can't do that. I mean no, no employer - however sympathetic - is going to employ you if you're taking half the days [laugh] off.
And then later on I met with them again to talk about kind of more like coping strategies. So it was almost like a, almost like a brainstorming session. So sort of like ways to, ways to cope at work with the migraines. So, things that had worked for other people with similar conditions, or with similar - maybe not with the same condition, but with similar problems, with other conditions with similar problems. And just like little ideas. So things like having a, a list of jobs that I can do, that are suitable to do when I have a migraine.
So like when I'm, when I'm not very clever, [laugh] when I'm, when I'm having a migraine, there's some jobs on my to-do list that don't need a lot of brain power. And kind of planning in advance, that they're marked up on the list as suitable for doing. Because sometimes you're not clever enough to figure out what you can do. And being able to go through the list and going 'oh, I could do that - look, it's marked up to say that this is an easy job, and it might be suitable for doing when you've got a migraine'. Because when you've got a migraine you might not be able to figure that out. And, you know, really little strategies like that. So that was actually really helpful. So little practical things [laugh].
